How to Blur Background for Meetings

Welcome back to our Microsoft Teams Tips Series! This week we’ll be talking about how to blur background for meetings.

If you are working from home, this tip is for you. The current global situation has drastically shifted to a typical workplace situation. Whether you are temporarily working from home or your organization has decided to permanently switch to a remote workspace, sometimes you just need to blur out the messy room you haven’t cleaned yet. Teams have the option to blur messy or distracting backgrounds during meetings. You can choose a predefined background or a simple blurred background.

Steps to Blur the Background

Before you join a meeting, enable the Blur toggle. Choose the background you would like to apply. For a simple blurred background, select Blur, and then click Apply

To change the background effect during a meeting, click on More Options on the floating menu bar and select Show background effects. Alternatively, you can also upload an image to have a custom background. To insert a custom background, select Add new and choose the picture you want to upload from your computer. The uploaded picture must be a .JPG, .PNG, or .BMP file. Note that if you change your background – whether it be one of the images provided, a blurred background, or a custom image – it will remain as your default background for all future video meetings until you change it again
